Hello, I’m Fiona Gilholme-Hird, and I’ve spent 25 years as a therapist, deeply fascinated by the patterns that shape our lives. Time and again, I’ve seen how the same patterns bring back the same outcomes—until we shift our perceptions. Even the smallest change in mindset begins a ripple effect, altering how we experience reality.

Right now, more people than ever are reaching out for mental health support, only to find themselves placed on long waiting lists, left without the help they urgently need. This deeply concerns me. I see firsthand the impact of these delays, and I wanted to do something about it.

This is why I created The Self Regulation Project—to offer support to those waiting for a psychologist, as well as those already in therapy. Alongside the clients I see, I felt a strong calling to make a difference for the many people left struggling in the gap between needing help and receiving it. I want people to know that there is so much they can begin doing on their own, right now, simply by observing their patterns, noticing recurring themes in their lives, and asking themselves key questions.

Life is pattern-based. Our behaviours, thoughts, and emotional responses follow familiar loops, creating a sense of certainty, even when these patterns are unhelpful. When we begin to witness these patterns with curiosity, we gain the power to shift them.

My hope with The Self Regulation Project is that it reaches those who need it most—that it provides a place to start, a sense of empowerment, and the knowledge that meaningful change begins within you, long before a therapy session ever takes place.

Your Transformation Begins With Awareness

Self-regulation is an art—one that allows you to pause, reflect, and shift your responses instead of being ruled by old patterns. As you develop this skill, you build the ability to:

✅ Complement therapy with deeper self-exploration

On this journey, you’ll need:

  • Curiosity – What patterns keep repeating in my life? What do they reveal about my perceptions?
  • Courage – Am I willing to explore new ways of seeing myself and my experiences?
  • Compassion – Can I give myself space to learn and grow without judgment?
  • Accountability – Am I ready to acknowledge where I am now as the starting point for change?

You don’t have to wait for transformation—it starts the moment you begin observing, reflecting, and upgrading your perceptions.

At The Self Regulation Project, I offer practical tools that work alongside therapy or as a powerful foundation before starting therapy, helping you create lasting change from within.

My deepest hope is that this reaches the people who need it most—those who feel stuck, lost, or alone in their struggles. You are not powerless in this process. The journey begins with awareness, and it starts now.

Investing in yourself and being curious is an act of self love.  By being interested in yourself you create a desire to know yourself, to ask questions as to why you do what you do?

With this intention and focus on questions you may feel self-directed towards a search for answers, which over time can translate into self -knowledge.

Whilst knowledge can assist you in self-regulation it can only translate to wisdom when directly applied to your life.  This is where the power is, in the practice and the application.

I hope you are all inspired through this process of working with self-regulation to ask many questions, to be curious around your answers and to enjoy the self discovery that comes from this journey.
